I realize how lucky I am that breastfeeding came easily to me. I had those babies latched on right away, and I am so thankful. Even though that part of breastfeeding was easy, the relentlessness of nursing a child was tough. Being tied down to the feeding schedule made getting anything done difficult, and it’s obviously much harder to get sleep when you have to feed every couple of hours. Even though nursing was challenging at times, I committed to it since I know how beneficial breast milk is.

If you don’t feel great in your skin, just consider how spectacular our bodies are. We are able to give the gift of life! How amazing is that? ). But trust me, you will have your body back to yourself one day. While I loved my pregnant body, especially my belly in the first few months, I started to get self-conscious toward the end. Many physical changes come along with being pregnant, and I found it hard to feel sexy. Besides the obviously expanding belly, my boobs got bigger (that was actually a plus), and I had a couple of pregnancy spots on my face from the sun and little bumps on the backs of my arms and thighs from hormones.

I didn’t envision my life with toys sprawled across the living room floor. There are ways to make it more manageable (see “How to Deal with Kids When You Are Super Type A”), but the bottom line is, my house definitely looks different with kids around! Accepting that change has been freeing and made my life less stressful. But for all the exhaustion and hands-on time with an infant, I also realized something else with Cam, my first baby. Newborn babies sleep ALL. THE. TIME. Plus, Jay was away at work the majority of the time, and I was in a new city with only a couple of familiar faces.
